Historically first SDGs Awards were given on Saturday, May 27, 2017, during a ceremony in the Prague Czernin Palace.

That day, Czechia became one of the first countries in the world to have such awards. The first year was jointly organized by the Office of the Government, Association of Social Responsibility, Ministry of Industry and Trade, Czech Development Agency and the UN Czech Republic. The number of registered projects was incredible – 215.

Czechia is changing the world

During the campaign for the SDGs Awards, the clip Česko mění svět was created in cooperation with Forbes Czechia. The aim of the video was to introduce the SDGs to the Czech public. In total 25 personalities, including Petra Němcová, Yemi A. D., Lenka Bradáčová, Rytmus, Lukáš Hejlík, Simona Krainová, Jiří Mádl, Jan Saudek, Bára Nesvadbová, Petr Šimůnek, called the viewers into action.

The first SDGs Award Ceremony took place in the Czernin Palace at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and it was hosted by Yemi A. D. The main guest of the evening was professor Jeffrey Sachs, one of the most famous economist in the world, expert on sustainable development and adviser to the UN on the SDGs.

“The Czech SDGs Awards are a great innovation that will not only draw a lot of attention to the Sustainable Development Goals, but they also inspire a lot of companies, individuals and official agencies to increase their activities to achieve the Goals. This is an initiative that should be spread in other countries.”
