D21 – project: PB at schools by D21

Two Zambian schools had an opportunity to try participative budgeting (PB). Students from Kitwe tested a model which was successfully launched by D21 in Czechia. The goal of PB is to teach basic democratic principles to the youngest generation. Coordinators consulted each phase with D21 to ensure that the outcome suits the local conditions. Schools in Kitwe are known for low economic status of its students and a high number of students in class, eighty on average.

MasterCard in cooperation with Nigerian government launched an electronic ID card which made it possible for 13 million Nigerians to make electronic payments. After the pilot programme, NIMC plans to launch over 100 million cards for 170 million people living in Nigeria. This makes it the largest launch of electronic payment solutions in the country and widest reaching programme for financial inclusion in Africa.

Turkcell provides a free app called Hello Hope which helps refugees with faster and more successful integration in the Turkish society and thus reduces inequalities. The app uses flash cards, immediate translation services and it provides information on the access to public services such as health care and education.
